Oil Pulling
Oil pulling is an easy addition to your oral routine that has lots of benefits.
Oil pulling requires you to simply swish a teaspoon of oil in your mouth for up to 20 minutes and is easy enough to do everyday. It has been practiced for over a thousand years and is a regular part of an Ayurvedic morning routine.
Oil pulling’s benefits include:
plaque prevention
reducing bacteria that causes tooth decay
reducing gingivitis
fresh breath
How to practice oil pulling:
Take approximately 1 teaspoon of coconut or sesame oil in your mouth for at least 5 minutes and up to 20 minutes. Don’t swallow the oil!
Move the oil around and in between your teeth like you would a traditional mouthwash.
After the time has passed, spit the oil into your trash can (spitting oil down the drain will damage your pipes).
Rinse your mouth with water.
You may find that you can hold the oil for short time, but don’t be dismayed. Start slow and increase the time of the experience up to the full 20 minutes.
